OFF-ROAD

The club has a very active and successuf off-road section (see more in our history section) that caters for Youth and Senior racing as well as some leisure spins.

Shronaboy Farm

Established in 2018, the Shronaboy farm facility is a race-specific venue, developed under the initiative of Denis O’Shea and Jason Murphy. This was made possible by the generosity of the land-owners – Con and Eileen O’ Donoghue. The club is very grateful to be allowed to hold events throughout the year in all mountain biking disciplines. This also showcases what the sport has to offer to the people of Killarney.

We are engaged in all off-road activities and our Youth and Senior teams compete around the country and in the UK and have represented Ireland at an international level.

Our events include:

CROSS COUNTRY (XC)

This is primarily cross-country racing with an emphasis on endurance. Racing can last from 30 to 75 minutes.

DOWNHILL (DH)

The main focus is on racing down technical, tricky and steep descents as fast as possible.

ENDURO

Riders are timed on stages that are primarily downhill, with neutralized stages in between. These usually must be completed within a time-limit but the neutralized stages are not part of the accumulated time. Saturday is usually is a practice day with the main event on Sunday.

CYCLOCROSS (CX)

This is usually over laps of a circular route and is less severe than the disciplines above. The bikes used are quite similar in appearance to road bikes. It is a popular winter sport for road-racers.

LEISURE SPINS

The club runs regular off-road spins for those not competitively minded, or whose technical skills might not be adequate for racing. These are normally posted on our Facebook page. All levels are welcome to come and enjoy a day out.

YOUTH

Particular attention is paid to Youth development, with an equal emphasis on competition and the social side of the sport.

Our Youth riders are regular contestants at National Championship level and some have gone on to represent Ireland at Junior level.
