LEISURE

We have a large non-competitive Leisure section to our club, with a wide range of abilities and interests.

The landscape around the south-west of Ireland, and Killarney in particular, is ideal for leisure cycling and some of our regular spins cover terrain that riders travel long distances to experience.

Unfortunatley we cannot accommodate visitors to Killarney on our leisure rides.

REGULAR GROUP SPINS

Sunday Leisure Spins: Our regular Sunday spins are divided into four groups, according to average speed. Check our Facebook page on Saturday evenings for notice of group spins on Sundays.

Taster Sessions: We also offer occasional taster sessions with on Saturday mornings. These are for people who may be thinking of joining the club to begin riding with the 20-23kph group but are unsure about it. Please contact us via email at cyclingclubkillarney@gmail.com if you are interested. If participating in a taster session you will need to bring this form filled out to be insured as a guest rider with the club (check ‘downloads’ if this form does not open).

  • 20-23 kph Group – this is a wait group* unless it says otherwise on the notice
  • 23-25 Group – this is a wait group unless it says otherwise on the notice
  • 25-27 Group – this is a no-wait group*
  • 27-30 Group – this is a no-wait group

[*Club ‘no-wait’ groups usually stop to re-group from time to time – such as at the top of a hill – but generally maintain their average speed range. ‘Wait’ groups always wait for the slowest rider].
Information about regular Sunday rides is usually posted on our Facebook Page on Saturdays, along with mid-week rides from Spring to Autumn. When the evenings get longer mid-week evening rides are also organized.

LEADERSHIP OF GROUPS

Each leisure group has a co-ordinating Group Leader, assisted by ride Captains and almost all have Ride Leader training and certification from Cycling Ireland.

MENTORING PROGRAMME

The club runs a Mentoring Programme each year for adults who wish to get back into cycling or take it up more seriously. It is particularly suited to people who dream of doing the Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle but feel they would not be able for it.

THE THREE PEAKS CHALLENGE SPORTIVE

The Three Peaks Challenge is our very popular local sportive, all the profits of which are ploughed back into Youth development in the club: – see the Three Peaks Challenge page.

CYCLING WITHOUT AGE

As part of our inclusive ethos, Killarney Cycling Club started and supported a Cycling Without Age scheme in Killarney. This aims to get older and immobile people back out on ‘bike’ (trishaws): – see our Cycling Without Age page here.
